Those who were not frightened away by the weather predictions of a wakeup temperature of 3°C were treated to good conditions, and 9 of the 45 riders who showed chose to double the fun/pain by taking the 80km option.

The OBC officials have decided that the first 40km split for the riders of the 80km time trial would count towards the OBC BAR, and this was definitely to the liking of Bram Moerman, who not only had a 40km PB on the ABC courses (with a considerable improvement), but also set the best VDM time for these courses, eclipsing Hermann Kerckhoff's record on the earlier Almonte course by 11 seconds. You may also be interested to click here to see these VDM results age-handicapped by the method which has been employed in the OBC since 2003. As well, you may enjoy seeing how all of the 80km people thrived or died on their second 40km lap relative to the first. Congratulations to Wayne Dustin for being timed a mere 1 second slower! A fraction less consistent, but better, or is that crazier, was that randonneur fellow Vytas Janusauskas who sped up on his second 40km lap, doing it in 49 seconds less! The question of the day is : What is the minimum length we'd have to make the course in order for Vytas to win?

Concerning the 40km participants, one of first-timers was Sue Schlatter, who has been riding so well in the OTT 15km events this year. Sue set an impressive new women's course record with a time of 61:04, eclipsing the time of 61:25 set on 2005-Jul-25 by Jennifer Stevenson. Way to go! Today also saw was our fastest incidence of team work thus far in this series. Greg Christie and Joel Katz, both in the VCM class, joined forces to do an excellent 58:18. As well, congratulations to all who improved upon their previous 2006 or database best, especically to Michael Coney, Mélanie Provencher and David Munden who did so by more than 15%.
