With a temperature that was 14°C warmer than last week's chilly 5°C, and winds that were 46km/h calmer than the season-opener's 50km/h gusts, 57% more women rode tonight's time trial. Those who had weathered the earlier WTT challenges this year had an average performance ratio of 1.3012 relative to their earlier WTT races! That is saying that if conditions were identical, tonight's speeds would correspond to about a 30% higher power output, or alternatively tonight was about 30% easier! Yes, the conditions were pretty awful the previous two weeks!!! I had the distinction of being the most improved with a ratio of 1.4671! Here is a graph showing how people have done so far. If you are a woman, we'd love to see you out riding in this series. The great thing about time trials is that it doesn't matter how fast or how slow you are. It's a race of you against the clock, with the added incentives of trying to catch the slower riders who start ahead of you, or to not be caught by the faster riders who start behind you. The environment is supportive and fun. Information is available at http://ottawabicycleclub.ca/wtt. Note that young males (who turn 16 or less this year), and people of both genders with disabilities are also welcome to ride.
