NOTE: The rules weren't nailed down by the time that the event was run, so the handicap finishing order read out after the time trial is different than what is now posted officially on the obc tt site. The rather convoluted rules currently in place seem to be as follows: Riders who have finished at least three 15km OTT or WTT Time Trials in the current season are RTTC-handicapped relative to the standard time of 17:00 upon their best OTT 15km finish since Jan 1 of the previous season. Others get a handicap of zero. Note in particular that women don't need to ride 3 OTT's (Lucie only had ridden 2) but still are handicapped upon their best OTT time rather than their best WTT or OTT time! It's undetermined what handicap would be given to women if they had done 3 WTT but no OTT events. Anyway, you can easily see results with other rules applied by modifying the SIX parameters in the Handicaps section of this form. Have fun seeing what combination gives you the best ranking! By the way, what Kevin read out after the TT seemed to use the rider OBC 15km PB over this and the previous 0 (rather than 1) year, with at least 3 OTT or WTT (rather than just OTT) 15km finishes in this and the previous 0 years - ie., this. We're not sure yet as to whether or not non-OBC members qualify for OBC awards. Since Jennifer Garrett is sometimes listed as OBC and other times not on the official site, I'm keeping with what she told us for the WTT series (ie., not OBC). In order for the handicap rankings here to be consistent with the inconsistent, these results should currently be sorted upon "HcapAvgSpd" rather than first by Club.

The annual OBC Personal Handicap event drew out 93 riders, despite the coolness of the evening. 74 of those had qualified for a handicap. Congratulations to Alison Ingham who tops the official handicap results. Alison has been riding time trials since late in 2002 and has improved quite steadily over that time. Equally large congratulations to John Twemlow! His time tonight was by a long shot - 1:22 - his best since his serious cycling accident at the start of the 2003 cycling season. John's cube speed ratio improvement was also the best of the night - about 12.36% as compared with Alison's 10.93%. Note as well that, as was the case last year, there are some minor shortcomings with the RTTC method. Once again we see that some riders who did their best times tonight over the handicapping period - namely Neil Bell, Kris Jones and Hurd Stein, were ranked lower by the RTTC method than some riders who rode less well than their best over the handicapping period - namely Allen Cameron, Natasha Elliott and Larry Burge. We should fix this method, or better yet, just use the cube speed ratios to evaluate the best performances after the fact!
