ABC Open TT Series - 2003-Jun-24 - 15km (Tatlock Rd) (EvtFactor= 0.8622)
Weather: Hot.
The strong breeze which had been blowing all afternoon mercifully died as timekeeper, Stephen Tosh set the field off. Starting at minute intervals, seeded according to ability, all riders except the first off have the rider ahead as an incentive to go faster. Seeding worked well for scratchman, Jamie Johnson. Jamie managed to catch four riders in this , his fastest performance of the season, just 10 seconds over his course record, set in 2002. Last among those passed by Jamie, Scott McIntyre of Appleton, in his first ride this season scored a surprising second place with a 24 minute ride, leaving Fred Dennis, over a minute shy of last Tuesday's ride, 14 seconds in his wake. Fourth placed Frank Volkmer continued to show improvement with a short 27 minute finish while new member Geoff Shewfelt of Clayton scored a narrow victory over Janis Zvigulis to claim fifth. At the back end of the field, the struggle was equally fierce. John Brewster finally overcame mechanical problems to share 7th spot with newcomer Rebecca Kaufman of Kanata. Just 7 seconds down on this pair, last but not least, Debbie Thomas, achieved a stunning improvement of over a minute and a half to post a personal best ever. After participating in the 2 day 'Quest for a Cure' adventure race on the weekend Titia Praamsma opted to marshal the turn. Her team's 42 hour marathon of riding paddling and trekking in the Gatinau earned the quartet a 9 th place finish in this fund raiser for Cancer.
