The temperature was quite decent for mid-September, but the south winds, lack of seeding, large gaps between the start times of some riders, and the earlier event time (so that even the last starters were back before the wind had dropped off much) likely all contributed to slower times for most. Only 6 people improved upon their previous 2004 OTT bests. First place, Glen Rendall, with his fourth sub-20 OTT of 2004, was 42 seconds slower than his best on July 29. Second place finisher Craig Hawkes though, had a huge improvement - not only over his single previous OTT appearance this year, but also with a 27 second improvement over his previous personal best! Meanwhile, none of the 6 women out improved upon their season's bests, but it was nice to see Erika back out again after a summer of injury.
