ABC Open TT Series - 2005-Sep-11 - 40km (Calabogie - Hwy 511) (EvtFactor= 0.9575)
Weather: Cool to start, but quickly warmed up. Windy with winds against us on the way out.
Cool temperatures (somewhere around 10°C) and a strong breeze reduced some of us to shivering in the parking lot before the time trial. Luckily the temperature rose significantly over the next couple of hours, but the winds remained, making the 21km trip out to the turnaround considerably slower than expected for most riders. Still, 13 of the 24 riders who had completed a 40km ABC time trial in 2005 took the return trip of 19km fast enough to improve upon their previous 2005 40km ATT bests. In terms of excellent category performances, Amanda Shaw dropped the 2005 VAF best to 1:03:57, while Mary Ajersch took more than a minute off of her earlier 2005 VDF 40km mark. It is interesting to look at the BAR performances of the women and observe how close Amanda Shaw (currently in 1st place) and Natasha Elliott (currently the runner up) are! They took the same time to do the two distances (1:26:04) (which would have tied them for the BAR with the rules which were in place until 2003), but using the average of their average speeds, as we now do, Amanda edges Natasha out of first place. VetB women Erika Revesz and Ellen Pazdzior are almost as close in vying for 3rd spot, with Erika ahead by only .126km/h in terms of the average of their average speeds. Here are a graph of the current Women's BAR ranking and a "consistency" graph comparing the Women's 40km ATT speeds to their best 15km OTT speeds in 2005. We may find the women's BAR rankings changing yet in the remaining 15km OTT Saturday morning races... (Pictures)
