Fourteen riders got up bright and early (actually it was still dark when I headed off to my pickup point!) for this third ABC 40km time trial of 2014 and it was the best of the 40km TTs so far. The first 40km of the season was an abysmally slow high air pressure day with everybody being well off of their 2013 best ABC 40km. The second was better with every person who had ridden both the first and second improving, but it was painfully windy on the way out. Today's 40km had quite high air pressure but virtually no wind, so again, every person who had ridden an earlier ABC 40km time trial in 2014 improved! This has never happened before in any series recorded in my database, and it would be fantastic if the trend continued to the final 40km time trial in September - Let's hope for a warm one with no wind, no rain and low air pressure! Meanwhile congratulations to Joachim Toelke and Paul Comeau for improving upon their personal database bests for 40km. Here is a graph of the results for all participants in the ABC series thus far in 2014. Many thanks to John and Sherry Warren, Bob Woods and Leona Gray for running this time trial and to Dave McAuslan and Anne-Marie Carter-McAuslan for having a barbeque for us at their Carleton Place home afterwards. Cook Dave did a great job despite the broken collar bone which he sustained 4 days earlier. This is the second time that Dave has had problems with the plant life on the Trans Canada Trail. A couple of years back he broke his hip when a grape vine threw him to the ground. Last Wednesday he ran over a stick which got wedged under his fender causing him to fall and break his clavicle. Heal soon Dave, and beware the plants!
