Thanks to Greg Calnan for taking these photos before doing his time trial,
First of all, many thanks to the volunteers who show up to make this series happen - especially to John Warren who runs the series and enjoys telling us how ideal the weather conditions are even when they aren't, Sherry Warren who enjoys our attempts to do good turn arounds, Bob Woods who holds us at the start and lets us go and David McAuslan who took great turn-around photos even when his arm was in a sling! Also much gratitude to the other volunteers such as Les Humphreys, Anne-Marie Carter-McAuslan, Patricia Sullivan, Leona Gray, Fred Geuer, Giorgio Imbrognio, Colleen Janusauskas, Al Watson, Sandy Solojew, and Bob Giles, who helped when needed.
Tonight was the last ABC time trial of 2014, and seven riders turned up for another go at the challenging Clayton Road course. For the second week in a row, the women outnumbered the men, this time by an even wider margin of five to two! Emily Jansen (26:09) took first overall while Les Humphrey (26:44) led the men. The conditions were entirely reasonable for early fall - cloudy but not raining, cool (16°C) but not too cool, and there was only a slight breeze from the South and West. The high air pressure (102.6 kPa and rising at the Ottawa airport) was probably the best excuse for nobody improving upon their season-series personal best, but Les Humphreys was only 7 seconds off of his 2014 PB, and very well might have improved for a sixth consecutive time had he not been left with only one gear for the ride. Here is a graph showing how tonight's riders have done thus far in the ABC 15km events of 2014, and here are other ones showing how all participants have done in the 2014 ABC 15km series and all participants have done in the 2014 ABC 40km series. Also of interest is this chart of the ABC BAR results and this graph which shows how consistent their four ABC results for the BAR (best single ABC 40km and best three ABC 15km results of 2014).
