This site, now in its 27th season, is a labour of love and fun from one of Ottawa's most avid time trialists and number crunchers. It adheres to and is permitted by the laws of Canada, promotes the objectives of every bicycle club whose results are shown, and is donated free of charge by myself for your enjoyment and usage. If you would like results from series you ride in to be shown here, give me (celia.mcinnis@gmail.com) a shout!
NOTE that this site had to be quickly moved to a new server with a new version of Perl. Unfortunately the way of interacting with the web form has changed, so I'll have to do some reprogramming to get the buttons and search boxes working. Meanwhile the links work fine and you can always add query specifications into the URL! :-)

Tonight was the Personal-Handicap Event for OBC members based upon the British RTTC personal handicap method, with some extra qualifications thrown in. You can see the qualification rules currently in place by looking at what is filled into the form in the HANDICAPS section following "Personal:", and you may play with the nine settings(!) to see how the results vary. With the current qualifying rules - OBC members who have ridden at least three OBC 15km events on the Rockliffe Parkway in the current season have a handicap calculated from their best 15km time in an OBC 15km time trial ridden on the Rockliffe Parkway in the previous and current season before the event - the winners are Marc Lapointe in first place, Craig Hawkes in second and James Brooks in third. Tonight, these top scorers all exceeded their best time of the handicapping period (2005 until 2006-Aug-31), and you may click here to see a graph of their performances over this time frame. In all, 8 entrants improved upon their best time in the handicapping period. The most improved of these, Serge Tongoc, would have been the winner of this event had non-OBC members qualified for handicaps.

Note (again) the obvious shortcoming in the RTTC algorithm in that the handicaps generated rank some riders who tonight did their BEST time of the handicapping period lower than others who did NOT tonight do their best time of the handicapping period. In particular, Cathy Bakker should have ranked higher than Paul Datars, David Martin and Jacques Morvan. You can see this by looking at these PerformanceRatio column values or at the graph which clearly shows that Cathy did her best ride of 2005/2006 tonight whereas the others did not!
