There was virtually no wind tonight, and this led to some excellent times despite the rather cool and damp conditions. Tonight's winner, Bryson Bowers, in his second OTT event in as many weeks, improved by 24 seconds. Bryson, who placed second in the rainy Italian Festival A Race on Sunday, is a young up-and-coming rider with lots of potential. First Lady Sue Schlatter, was 18 seconds slower than in her ride two weeks ago, but still managed her third sub-21 minute time trial. There were also excellent rides by Florence Laplante-Lamarche for a CAF record and Junior rider Andrew Lattimore. There was also a considerable improvement for young Derek Gee, much in line with that of father Jon. Note that of the 37 people who had ridden earlier 2008 OTT events, 18 equalled or improved upon their season-series best, while 17 people actually managed to match or better their previous databased best - And we're still only in June waiting for the weather to warm up! As the current long-time database record holder Ray Duggan recently wrote, "And up until the last 2 weeks almost all of the men's best times were set in Aug or late July. That's why my record won't survive the year. It's June and they are already on the door. When 'Fast Season' rolls in during August if these guys keep coming out, it will be shattered.". You can see how the history backs up Ray's claim. Looking at the stored results before 2007 (when participation was low due to road construction in July through mid August), we see that almost twice as many people had database PBs in Jul-Sep as did in the other months. It will be an exciting season!
