Only 51 people turned up to ride tonight, probably as a result of the weather watch for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. The wind was gusty from the SSW, picking up as the event proceeded, and some of us got back before the rain started to fall. Low air pressure (100.8kPa at the air port) is always helpful (except when it's in your tires (mine!)), as are warm temperatures (26°C) for most of us. Fastest of the night was a woman, Karol-Ann Canuel, with an impressive time of 20:01 (44.96km/h)! She has improved in each of the four events that she has ridden. Her time tonight is currently the eighth fastest female time in my database, only bettered by Sue Schlatter. Note that Sue was in her late forties when setting her best times, and it is interesting to compare the top riders using the OBC Age Handicaps of 2003 and with the Age/Gender Handicaps generated from the British VTTA standards. For the rest of us, nineteen riders improved upon their previous season-series best, and ten bettered their previous database best. Congratulations to Cadet male Clay Moon (24:29) for being the most improved in this regard (26.56% cube speed improvement), taking 2 minutes off of his first attempt. For fun, we can also look at how each of us did tonight relative to the OBC 2003 Age Handicaps and the Handicaps arising from the British VTTA standards.
