In this last 10km WTT event of 2008, twenty-two ladies arrived to battle the coldest and windiest 10km event of the 2008 WTT series. At several of the more open points on the course, the strong and gusty side winds made it tricky to stay on the bike, let alone to keep it moving forward. Most were about 40 seconds slower than their previous 2008 WTT best, yet one of us, Anna Delaney, actually managed to improve significantly upon her previous 2008 WTT 10km best citing good eating and a five pound weight loss as factors. In terms of consistency thus far, Pippa leads with her three WTT rides being within 10 seconds of one another despite the variable weather conditions! Celia was amused to be mistaken for Ellen by turn-around helpers Mary and Jackie, and then was left laughing in oxygen debt when the fraud was uncovered with Mary shouting out "THAT's not ELLLLLEN(!), that'SSS Celia!" as the real Ellen gained on the horizon. It was nice to have Erika, recovering from a leg injury, out for the first time this season and to see Paola de Rose back after an 8 year absence. You may see the category rankings for the 10km WTT events by clicking here. For your curiousity, you may see the 2003 age-handicapping method applied to all of the results (note the scaling of the 15km handicaps!) by clicking here. As well, if you're interested, you can check out how the British VTTA organization would handicap the performances those at or above 40 years of age relative to both age and gender by clicking here.
Note that next week we're on to 15km with registration in the Aviation Museum's parking lot. See you there
