Tuesday, 15 July 2003 - ABC 15k Time Trial Results

Boisterous winds which had earlier brought ominous banks of black cloud over the starting area on Tatlock Road, now blew almost to a standstill as a record turn out of 13 answered timekeeper, Bill Mclennan's call.

Scratchman, Jamie Johnson found that what little wind there was turned out to be as much a hinderance as a benefit, returning a first place result barely a few seconds faster than last week. This time, however, Jamie had a new challenger, in the shape of Rick Collard, back in Canada for a stint with the armed forces. While his 22 minute ride was good for second spot, Rick needs to improve over a minute if he wants to surpass Jamie.

Although Fred Dennis improved 20 seconds, his 23 minute ride was only good for third place, but it put him well clear of fourth placed Dave Brown. Scott McIntyre, returning to time trialling after a tough weekend in Gatineau Park at the Ottawa Grand Prix, stayed close to form with a 24 minute ride, giving him fifth spot. Just 5 seconds behind Scott, Geof Paul came home with a season's fastest to finish sixth.

Two minutes back, Frank Volkmer turned in a short 26 minute ride to take seventh spot, just five seconds clear of Linda Martin, returning what could be a women's course record for eighth place. Geoff Shewfelt, just 11 seconds back, posted a personal best (PB) with an improvement of over a minute to finish ninth.

A second PB was posted by tenth placed, Titia Praamsma, with a short 27 minute ride, an improvement of almost a minute on last week's performance. Closing in on Titia, Rebecca Kaufman improved almost two minutes to post a PB with her eleventh placed finish. Likewise, John Brewster posted a PB with an improvement of almost a minute to claim twelfth place.

Last but not least was Amy Vanderspank,of Lanark, who completed her very first time trial on a brand new bike.

Timekeeper Bill Mclennan was ably assisted by Janis Zvigulis with Stephen Tosh handling the turn.
